More important than all the goal setting and the seeking to fulfill our calling and seeking the answer to the “what to do next” question, the secret to our success…
is the being.
If we don’t take the time to “be” (to sit with the Lord, to partake of the Living Water, to abide in Him), then we don’t have the power to DO more of anything that will truly last.
“Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me. I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.” John 15:4, 5
So let us first, COME.
Accept the invitation that goes out to the weary: Come and find rest, deeply abide…
deny ourselves, take up our cross, and FOLLOW Him.
Please, please, fulfill your purpose and “fulfill your ministry” (2 Timothy 4:5). We need what He has gifted you to give, BUT
in the midst of finding your significance and making your mark on this world, which are good things, do not lose sight of your first love, your only power.
And find your position and significance in Him alone.
Lord, in You alone, my hope is found, my significance, my purpose, my reward. May I be filled up to all the fullness of You so that it is YOU that flows out of my life when I rise, walk, talk, and go on my way,
“so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, when I speak, may I do so as one who is speaking the utterances of God; when I serve, may it be by the strength that You supply” (1 Peter 4:11) and in Your felt, palpable love for others that opens hearts and doors to the gospel for a LIFE response, a heart response (Acts 16:14). You just do, naturally, better work flowing out of me than any work or good plan for ministry that I could ever have.
So I position myself in You, abiding in you, and saying “Yes”.
How? Just drawing near, taking the TIME, “being diligent to present myself approved as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, handling accurately the word of truth” (2 Tim. 2:15), surrendering my ways and selfish desires and following you.
For this is your life and days, my friend: choosing 1) to love the Lord your God 2) obeying His voice 3) and holding fast to Him (from Deut. 30:19b-20).
Choose life that you may live. He has called you to live and live abundantly.
How many truly are?
Are you?
