But God…
There are many times in Scripture when we are reminded that God steps in and moves and changes things,
and we rejoice in His work.
Here are some of our favorites ‘but God’s:
“For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will hardly die for a righteous man; though perhaps for the good man someone would dare even to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Rom. 5:8
“For consider your calling, brethren, that there were not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble; but God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong, and the base things of the world and the despised God has chosen, the things that are not, so that He may nullify the things that are, so that no man may boast before God.” 1 Cor.1:26-28
” ..we are afflicted on every side: conflicts without, fears within. But God, who comforts the depressed, comforted us…” 2 Cor.7:6
“And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of that spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience. Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest. But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that is not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.” Eph. 2:1-9
We ourselves can attest to many ‘but God’s in our own lives, ones that we celebrate because they are easily seen as good. Then there are others that are not so easily recognized as good in the moment.
Today ask Him to remind you of all the ‘but God’s He Himself has worked in your life, where He has clearly stepped in and intervened in unexpected ways for your good and His glory.
Thank Him and give Him glory.
In this next post we will talk about those ‘but God’ moments when the good is hidden for a time and yet are still a call to thank Him and give Him glory.
Thanks for stopping by. I would LOVE to hear from you and get your feedback!
