31 Days of Basking in the Love and Truth of God

Day 1: An Invitation

Overwhelmed? Fearful? Worried? Hesitant? Confused?

Recently I was struck with this simple thought:

God’s love and truth is THE ANSWER.

And basking in that love and truth is what we need.

Period.

KNOWING that we are deeply, truly loved by the Creator of the universe is the answer to so many wounds that we try to ignore, the answer to so many offenses, and the answer to so many of our fears and insecurities.

And I believe that we need some extended time of hearing and basking in that love in a way that we truly begin to receive it and trust it.

How about 31 days? Would you join me? And, of course, may we not stop at only 31 Days. Let’s make it a habit.

Then from that place of KNOWING and TRUSTING, may we then find ourselves strong and courageous and walk boldly from that position of ‘Loved’.

BRAVE and FREE as we believe and receive His love.

This is an invitation to bask in God’s love and truth and find your ‘fearless courage’.

“On the day I called, You answered me;
You made me bold with strength in my soul.” Psalm 138:3

An Attitude to Guard Against

“Then Jesus said to His disciples, ‘If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me.'” Matt. 16:24

As we consider and honestly answer the question of what we want and what He wants us to want (click on the links if you missed them),

may we not find ourselves stuck in an attitude of

                                  “I want what I want!”

What can that attitude sound like?

I don’t want to deny myself.
I don’t want to surrender.
I don’t want to follow, when I don’t know where I’m going.
I don’t want to be vulnerable.
I don’t want to take risks.

I want to protect myself and stay in control.
(Ha! as if we are ever really in control.)

YET…..

all that we really want is on the other side of each of those very steps.

On the other side of surrender, there is LIFE and freedom.

Oh to follow Him!
To deny self and find Him so faithful.

To break out of the prisons (even of our own making and vain imaginations- 2 Cor. 10:5) of fear and insecurity and control

and fight for breakthrough into freedom and POWER and life abundant and adventure and the hope and peace and the deep longings of our hearts, already made available and paid for at the cross.

May we lay any “I want what I want” and all the ‘fears to commit’ aside, to follow Him.

May we daily (and even moment by moment) surrender, seek Him, and allow Him to deliver us from all our fears.

“On the day I called, You answered me;
You made me bold with strength in my soul.” Psalm 138:3

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
With pen in hand (expecting Him to answer), here are a few things to talk to God about:
-Lord, show me right now where I may be stuck in a “I want what I want” attitude rather than wanting You above all things. What am I striving for and have put ahead of what You have already freely given and lavished upon me and is enough?
-Lord, show me what those steps (of denying myself, surrender, vulnerability, risks, following You and You alone) practically look like for me today, in this season? What are you calling me to and empowering me to do?
-Lord, YOUR truth sets me free. Speak the truth I need to hear right now in my present circumstances.
Friend, do you have no idea where to start in answering one of those questions?
Just start writing and tell Him about how you don’t know, and let Him begin to show you.
Just put pen to paper.
I am praying for you, and Jesus is too (Romans 8:34, Heb. 7:25).
What Does God Want Us to Want?
“You have said, Seek My face [inquire for and require My Presence as your vital need.]
My heart says to You, Your face [Your presence], Lord, will I seek, inquire for, and require [of necessity and on the authority of Your Word].” Ps. 27:8 AMP
We have been in a small ‘What do you want?” series which begins here: A Question to Consider.  And as we ask Him “What do You want us to want?”, this is what I hear Him answer.
‘Want ME’..
Seek Me first and My righteousness and ALL these things shall be added unto you.
Put first things first!
Seek My Presence, which truly takes care of the wants for ‘comfort’ AND ‘purpose’* in ways that maybe are different than you imagine,
but better.
ASK.
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives; and he who seeks, finds; and to him who knocks, it will be opened. Now suppose one of you fathers is asked by his son for a fish; he will not give him a snake instead of a fish, will he? Or if he is asked for an egg, he will not give him a scorpion, will he? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?” Luke 11:10-13
He is a good gift giver.
Those who seek Him do not get otherwise. He is a good Father.
My friend, pour out your wants to Him in prayer. Talk to Him about all of them. That is prayer.
Ask.
“Seek the Lord and His strength;
Seek His face continually.” Ps. 105:4
When you seek His face, it will be His face that you find.
Are there any ‘wants’ on your list that He needs to purify, ones that you know are against His will for your life and do not honor and glorify Him? Would you surrender them to Him right now, seek His face, and ask for and require His Presence as your vital need and ‘want’.
Period.
And may “all these things” (things that you may have anxiety over the lack of- Matt. 6:25-33) be added unto you as you seek Him.
“I sought the Lord, and He answered me,
And delivered me from all my fears.” Ps. 34:4
And there is peace unexplainable.
And to see the next in this small series of thoughts. Click here. This one is concerning an attitude that we all want to avoid.
And one last note: This answer to the question “Lord, what do you want me to want?” is true for all of us, but you probably heard something a little different as He spoke to exactly where you are. What did He speak to your heart? I’d love to hear.
