No More ‘Little Life’ Living

Do we serve a Big God, but live a little life?

Jeremiah 32:17 says, “Ah Lord God!  Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and by Your outstretched arm!  Nothing is too difficult for You..”

And then ten verses later Jeremiah 32:27 says,“Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh; is anything too difficult for Me?”

But in between these two great faith inspiring verses sits this sobering thought: Jeremiah 32:21-23 “You brought Your people Israel out of the land of Egypt with signs and with wonders, and with a strong hand and with an outstretched arm and with great terror; and gave them this land, which You swore to their forefathers to give them, a land flowing with milk and honey. They came in and took possession of it, but they did not obey Your voice or walk in Your law; they have done nothing of all that You commanded them to do; ……”

What a sad commentary.

He blessed them abundantly; how could they not, in thankfulness to God, commit to serve and obey Him?

Yet, what about us?  God has brought us, as His children, out of our pits and out of our bondage with His great miraculous power, with a strong hand and with an outstretched arm, and has placed us in a land of plenty:

“And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience.  Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest.  But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with Him and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus..” Ephesians 2:1-6

He has taken us out of our ‘Egypt’.
He has given us a new heart, a new life.
We are new creatures in Christ.
We have such a great salvation and the power of the Holy Spirit within us, along with everything we need for life and godliness.
He has blessed us abundantly with spiritual gifts so that we can live abundantly and do the good works that He has planned beforehand that we should walk in them (Eph 2:10).

And we come into this new life with Christ and take possession of it and just expect to live off the milk and honey of this ‘land’.  We come in and take possession and then decide to walk our own way, sowing seeds to the flesh and indulgences, instead of obeying His voice and laying down our lives as a living sacrifice and living out all that He has put in.

This simply should not be.

We take possession of the home, neighborhood, community in which He has placed us and enjoy it, but do not fully obey all that He has for us to do here and, therefore, never fully possess our possession.

Let it NOT be said of us, “They came in and took possession of it, but they did not obey Your voice or walk in Your law; they have done nothing of all that You commanded them to do; ……”

“He who has my commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will disclose Myself to him.” John 14:21

What about us?
Are we living off the spoil of the land and yet walking our own way?

Or are we daily taking up our cross and choosing real life
by loving the Lord our God,
obeying His voice,
and holding fast to Him:
the God of the impossible!

(Deuteronomy 30:19,20; Matthew 19:26)

May we determine to fully possess our possessions and all our inheritance as children of God. And put it all to use.

Because He is ‘big’ and ‘more than able’,

may we live big, extraordinary lives FOR HIS GLORY!

All or Nothing?

Lay down the all or nothing.

Peter had no expectation of having his whole life under control and holy before he could successfully step out upon the water in faith and obedience to Jesus (Matt. 1:27-29).

But for us, the list that goes through our head (the checklist of GOOD things) can easily be so overwhelming that it immobilizes. Then we do not obey the command, the invitation, “Come!”

Our Heavenly Father’s commands are invitations to powerful experiences of His enabling grace, and how many times do we say no out of fear or a sense of inability or unworthiness?

May we learn that we do not have to get ourselves together so that we can do what He is calling us to do.

He is with us, with all the ABILITY that we need in the moment.

“My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.”

So may we therefore proclaim,

I will not despise or try to hide my weaknesses, but rather I will boast in them so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. And I will CHOOSE to be well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ’s sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong (2 Cor. 12:9,10).

I will not allow my perceived weaknesses to thwart me from stepping ‘out of the boat’ and into Jesus’ miraculous working power in My life.

I will obey and trust Him to make me ABLE. And in that, He will make me more and more fit to be used and more holy as He leads me and draws me closer and closer, making me more and more like Him.

Taking Steps of Faith and Obedience

He can be trusted to lead us well. And His leading will always, always draw us closer to Him.

May we follow.

“O send out Your light and Your truth, let them lead me;
Let them bring me to Your holy hill
And to Your dwelling places.” Psalm 43:3

From the Father’s heart for you today:

Come.

Draw near with confidence to the throne of grace and receive mercy and find grace (Heb. 4:16).

Just step in and enter.

That’s all anyone must do.

You make things hard, making the ‘hoops’ so high that you quit before you ever get started.

Peter just said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water,” heard Me say “Come!” (that’s all), and stepped out (Matt. 14:27,28,29).

Peter did not, in that moment, make a list of all that he needed to take care of in his internal and outer life and character BEFORE he deemed himself worthy to take a step of faith.

See the lesson here.

My children make the decision to TRUST Me, and then immediately (often without even realizing it) make a long list of ‘do’s and don’ts’ to be worthy and ABLE to walk out in that trust. This actually demolishes their pure childlike faith in Me because the checklist is too long and impossible. It takes their eyes off of Me and on themselves and their failures and inability.

Therefore they choose to take no step rather than just take one step of faith at a time.

What if you just took this current step of obedience and then the next, learning as you go?

In pure trust and dependence upon Me.

“For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.” 2 Cor. 1:20

So the question then is : Will we take Me up on them?

I am yours and you are Mine. Use Me. Put Me to use in My fullness and power wherever you go.

Whose Definition of Success Are We Chasing?

From God’s Heart:

What if you abandoned all the world’s definitions of ‘success’ and lived only onto Me?

What if you lived your life with your focus on the ‘unseen,’ like holiness, rather than the ‘externals’ that the world would like to measure you by?

What if you lived with a focus that is BEYOND what people see and are able to measure and judge, a focus on the unseen heart and the acts of obedience that no human will ever see and be able to approve or disapprove of?

What if you start there in the stillness and in the quiet and dark?

Rather than measuring yourself by worldly standards, consider how you live there in the internal, in the place where I see and know what success truly is for you personally, because I know what you are called to.

Start there.

Be completely intolerant of sin and any and every thought that does not line up with My truth.

LIVE before Me and as Mine so that what I think is what matters most to you, entrusting yourself to Me, the One who judges righteously (1 Peter 2:23).

What if we, His people, lived out this truth day by day?

May we live with a focus on being a God-pleaser, pleasing Him Who values the “unmeasurable unseens” in our lives. Then from that place, Him living in and through us, will come effective results (fruit).

“For the eyes of the Lord move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His.” 2 Chron. 16:9

May we be whole-heartedly His.

Whose Approval Are We Seeking?

We tend to long for people’s approval, don’t we?

And that approval can become our measurement of success, our measurement of worth, and a roadmap for where to strive next.

We begin to look for clues from the world to confirm to us that we are on the right track.

But honestly, when will the ‘world’ really ever confirm that to us? The right track is a foreign path to the world. We realize this, and yet still want to meet their measurements of worldly success.

It is a trap that is so easy for us to fall into without even realizing that we’ve been caught, taking our focus off of God (Heb. 12:2a) and pleasing Him in all respects (Col. 1:10) and then as a result, fixing our eyes on man.

But thankfully He won’t allow us to sit comfortably in that condition.

Because He has a higher standard than the world’s and knows what He has truly called us to, not only to do but also what He has called us to be, it is impossible for the world to ‘measure’ that success.

And if we are looking to this mixed up, upside down world, “who call evil good, and good evil; who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness” (Is. 5:20) for the clues for our next steps of success, well, just with common sense, we should realize that we need to pause that thought and reconsider.

Questions to consider:

-Where are you looking to ‘the world’ and for the approval of man to affirm that you are on ‘the right path’?

-Is there something that you know the Lord has called you to do that you also know people (the world) will never ‘approve of’? Who will you serve? God or man? Serving God in holy obedience will have you serving man in the most helpful way.

It is written, “You shall worship the Lord your God and serve Him only” Luke 4:8 (written about here).

Next time we will talk about whose definition of success we are chasing.

Not Ashamed Nor Fearful

“I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, ‘But the righteous shall live by faith.'” Romans 1:16,17

From the Father’s heart:

You have the mind of Christ, and I am calling you to live in such a way that you ‘work out’ (let shine) what I have placed in you (Phil. 2:12).  Live it out. Yes, to be seen.

Don’t try to avoid the insults or the scorn. In fact, I say the opposite: “Blessed are you when men hate you, and ostracize you, and insult you, and scorn your name as evil, for the sake of the Son of Man.  Be glad in that day and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven.”  Luke 6:22,23

As a disciple of Christ, you are promised to be a fragrance of death to some, but you are also promised to be a fragrance of life to others (2 Cor. 2:15,16).  And what you are, a fragrance of life or death, need not concern you.

You just follow Me (John 10:27).

Take no responsibility for what I spill over into people’s lives or how they respond.  You are only responsible for the obedience.  Give out the life that I have to give through you.

Shine with your unique giftings in ways that I have specifically designed you.

Shine for ME.

“The fear of man brings a snare, But he who trusts in the Lord will be exalted.” Proverbs 29:25

Therefore,

“In God I have put my trust, I shall not be afraid.  What can man do to me?” Psalm 56:11

Shine

From the heart of God:

Let your light shine. Don’t ‘hide’ Me.

When you are afraid to shine and don’t want to be ‘seen’ or are afraid to speak the truth of My love, that’s what you are doing.  You are not just hiding yourself or protecting yourself like you may think. You are actually hiding Me and stealing My glory.

You are the light of the world.

A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but (they put it) on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.”

Let your light shine before men 1that they may see your good works AND 2glorify ME! (Matthew 5:14,15,16)

If you refuse to shine,

you steal an opportunity to glorify My name.

I came as the light of the world and then call you ‘the light of the world.’  Let Me shine through you.

Fearless Courage: Why I Wrote 31 Days

“What do you ‘want’?”

It has been a clarifying question that I have been hearing the Lord ask my heart lately (and I wrote about it here and most recently in a small series that begins here).

But my answer a month ago to this question led to me to this write31days series.

“I want time in Your Word, in Your Presence, and to hear Your voice everyday and THEN I want to DO with it what You call me to.

That’s my want: You, You, and You, and to pour You out!

I want to truly RECEIVE You and Your love in a way that makes me BRAVE and unafraid to do Your will.

The fear of man is a snare, it lays a snare (Prov. 29:25), and I so readily fall into that snare,

BUT (so here’s the answer to that fear of man)
whoever TRUSTS in the Lord is safe

He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him (Prov. 30:5).”

I desire

To be able to stand firm because I stand on this heart knowledge of the truth and joy of being LOVED and then do ministry from that platform of strength (which is written about here).

To BE in a place that because I know and receive and TRUST the Father’s love and have My focus on eternity (rather than on the here and now), I can speak bold truth in that love, not afraid of man, ‘my inner critic’, nor the enemy’s voice that sometimes whispers (but most often shouts), ‘Who do you think you are?’ along with the threat, ‘People will only hate and reject you.’

Oh, to be made bold with strength in my soul! (Ps 138:3) and to live with Paul’s attitude of full abandonment “according to my earnest expectation and hope, that I will not be put to shame in anything, but that with all boldness (by fearless courage), Christ will even now, AS ALWAYS, be exalted in my body, whether by life or death” Phil. 1:20.

And because truly basking in the Father’s love is the answer and because I need it, the idea of this series emerged and day 1 and 2 of the 31 days were written.

Ps. 27:3
“Though a host encamp against me,
My heart will not fear;
Though war arise against me,
In spite of this I shall be confident.”…..

…..because He loves me, and He gives me fearless courage and makes me bold with strength in my soul as I call out and depend upon Him.

Oh Lord, make us BRAVE.

May we hear and DO (act upon) Your truth (Luke 4:46-48, 8:21, James 1:22)

and KNOWING You (through a true knowledge of You-2 Peter 1:3),

go do exploits (display strength and TAKE ACTION -Dan. 11:32b).

“..fulfill your ministry.” 2 Tim. 4:5

(I was reminded of this yesterday as I read Luke 4, and wrote about that here.)
