Sow to the Spirit

Sowing to the flesh versus sowing to the Spirit

“How am I sowing to the Spirit?”
This would be a good question to constantly ask ourselves.
How am I sowing today?

We long to be filled and led by the Spirit (and are to be as children of God), yet if our actions
predominantly do the opposite and sow to the flesh, are these truly our wants? This is a pertinent question as well.

How much of even our “Christian activity” actually sows to the flesh (of self-importance, pride, busy distraction – truly thinking we are doing good but really just busy and distracted FROM “the better”) and is quenching the Spirit (1 Thess. 5:19, 1 Cor. 6:19) and making no room (no room in the inn) in the temple of God? Is there no vacancy for the King of Kings because our lives are so full of “good works” and “fruitless distractions” and so many activities?

Oh, let’s make room! Give the Lord space – to work, be free, and produce. Clear the noise, the crowds, the distractions. Sow to the Spirit.

“How?” is a good question. How do we sow to the Spirit? Ask Him. These are really great life questions to seek Him for specific answers to.

“In contemporary society our Adversary majors in three things: noise, hurry, and crowds. If he can keep us engaged in ‘muchness’ and ‘many-ness,’ he will rest satisfied. Psychiatrist C.G. Jung once remarked, ‘Hurry is not of the devil; it is the Devil.’” Richard Foster, Celebration of Discipline, Chapter 2.

May you be encouraged in ways to grow deeper in relationship with the Holy Spirit. Throw off any feeling that the time it takes is wasteful or indulgent or not “making the most of your time, for the days are evil”. It is the best use of time. Abide in Him and allow His Word to abide in you. Take the time. Be still. Know Him. Sow to the Spirit.

“Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.” Galatians 6:7, 8
